We are proud to have team members like Deborah on board the Penny Miller team. Deb reminds us how much fun you can have while being a mum, a wife and a Penny Miller Distributor and Area Coordinator.
Deborah Stuart has been a Penny Miller Distributor for seven months, but given her confidence, her can-do attitude and the breadth of her role, you wouldn’t guess it. Deborah has now also become an Area Coordinator for Sydney’s Cabramatta and is a well-known face in her neighbourhood, where she gets around on foot or by car three days per week, sometimes with her three-and-a-half year old son Danby in tow.
After moving to Australia from England to care for Deborah’s unwell father, the family found themselves under financial pressure. Deborah’s husband Jimi was able to work, but with two young children at home, Deb’s options were limited. With Christmas on the horizon, and her eldest son, Christian-James, only months away from beginning school, Deborah decided it was time to start bringing in some cash and building up to re-entering the workforce. In October 2014, Deborah joined Penny Miller as a Distributor. She received one-on-one training with a manager in her area, and was able to bring the kids along on distribution days. Initially, she says, it was difficult not being familiar with the products, “but even with that, it didn’t take long for me to get answers back to people.”
[My one-on-one trainer] Linda was very clear and went through step-by-step training with me. Each week was something new so it wasn’t confusing.
For Deborah, Jimi and the family, joining the Penny Miller team has lifted some of the financial pressure of moving back to Australia from the UK and armed Deborah with the confidence she needs to re-enter the workforce as Christian-James begins school. “It was a big adjustment to get back into work,” says Deborah. “But it’s great because we’ve been able to manipulate it to work best for our family.” One of the most difficult (and rewarding) things about being a distributor, she says, is “getting the confidence to deal with people again. And confidence in yourself… You soon realise how flexible the job can be to fit into your routine, which is exactly what I needed to get back into working.”
Because it’s flexible you’re running your own show. No one is relying on you to be there at a certain time or earn a certain amount. You can go on holidays when you want and take time off if the kids are sick.
Deborah’s confidence must have shone through in her work, because her Zone Manager, Dawn, describes her as “my number one AC at the moment. She’s very motivated, very jolly; nothing’s too hard for her.”
With her success at work, Deborah was soon earning enough as a Distributor and Area Coordinator to save money to travel to New York for Jimi’s birthday. “It was a bucket list thing for him.” She says. “He’d always wanted to do it.” Deborah and Jimi left the kids at home and enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York, which Deborah dreamily says was “quite a thrilling experience.” While Deb and Jimi are still paying off part of their overseas trip, Penny Miller has provided that bit of extra income to make them feel comfortable with their finances.
We feel we’ve got control over expenses now. At least we know we’ve got backup.
Deborah says she plans to stick around at Penny Miller as long as the orders keep coming in, which, if her previous successes are anything to judge by, could be a long while. “I’m just really grateful for the work and the flexible nature of the company.” She says. “It’s really helped my family and helped me get back into workforce.” We hope that Deborah continues to shine just as brightly as an Area Coordinator, wife to Jimi and mother to Christian-James and Danby. Well done Deborah!
